POL - Wide range of topics covered in first days of chapter

4 dzien-8

“And with this,” said Fr. Artur Sanecki, SCJ, Provincial Superior, “I declare open the XII Provincial Chapter of the Polish Province of the Congregation of the Sacred Heart of Jesus." Having said this, he handed the moderation of the chapter to Fr. Ryszard Krupa, SCJ, and Fr. Wiesław Święch, SCJ.

In the afternoon of the first day, Fr. Arthur presented a status report of the province since 2008, the time of the last Provincial Chapter. In his report he discussed the most important statistical data and events of the province during last six years. He referred to the visit of General Superior, General Councilor and General Treasurer in 2011. At the end of his extensive report he outlined the current situation of the province passing in review the various sectors of the life and activity of the communities and members. At the end, he signaled the importance - in his opinion – of the challenges for the future of the province.

4 dzien-17In the discussion that followed his presentation the main topic of concern was youth ministry and vocations. The members of the chapter pointed out the need for more intensive prayer in communities and penitential practices.  Discussions also highlighted the need for greater accountability of all in the appointment and support of those who work in the pastoral ministry. Concerns were noted for the care for the elderly and the sick. It is clear that the province has to give more attention to the aging members of the province.

“Formation, investing in yourself, is a high priority for us, especially in our time,” Fr. Provincial added. The Provincial ended by thanking all for their comments. Some of the issues raised will receive further attention later in the Chapter.

Fr. Michał Olszewski, SCJ, who is responsible for the internet-based work of evangelization called Profeto (www.profeto.pl), shared his work with Chapter as well as the legal and financial aspects of the project. On Wednesday, Profeto celebrated its second anniversary.

4 dzien-28In the next day’s session the Provincial Treasurer, Fr. Marek Romańczyk, SCJ, gave an extensive overview of the legal and economic situation of the province. He informed the chapter about the most important financial events and the province’s investment in facilities during the past six years. One by one he presented the legal status of all the houses in Poland, Slovakia, Switzerland, in the districts of Belarus, Moldova, Finland, and the territorial community in Ukraine. Because of the recent expenditures and the multiple uses, he gave special attention to the issue of the insurance and the expenses related to the renovation of Dehon Publishing House and Domus Mater in Krakow.
